One Point Perspective Projects

One-Point Perspective projects teach how to show 3D attributes in 2D artworks by describing distance and depth.

Imagine you will be going on a road trip like me, Charlie the Stinkbug.  Think about where you would like to go. Now, picture what you think you would see through the car window on that trip.  What does it look like in that place?  What things would you see that are special to only that place that you may not see anywhere else.

Here is a project where one-point perspective is used to draw a name in block letters.  As you can see, the names are drawn in a way that shows depth and distance.  You can see the letters as if they are not flat.

Klimt Portraits in Gold

Hey Fourth Grade!  I see you are learning about Gustav Klimt and some of his "gold portraits."
Patrons of Klimt were women married to wealthy business men.  Klimt said he showed the wealth of his subjects by painting them as jewels.  For part of his life his paintings contained a lot of gold in them.  Notice the patterns in the paintings.  The artist wanted the create contrast between the background, clothing, and the parts of the people that you can see.  While the people appear realistic, the rest of the painting does not.

Matisse Cut-Outs

When Henri Matisse, the Impressionist painter was older he was confined to a wheelchair but continued to make art work.  His "cut-outs" were works of art made by using scissors to cut out shapes from different colored paper.  He arranged and glue the shapes in compositions in which he made over 250 of in about ten years.  He called this method, "drawing with scissors."  Matisse's cut-outs can be classified as a collage.  Why is this true?

My Travel Map!

Today I want to tell you about my interactive Google map.  One of the ways you can see the works of art I have visited is through my interactive Google map below.  Every time I visit a work of art I will place a push-pin on the map.  Push-pins can be clicked on and you can see where in the world I have visited famous and favorite artwork.  Try it out!  I have a push-pin for Pittsburgh and some of my favorite art just here in my hometown!

Hi, I am Charlie!

Hello to you!  I am very excited for this school year and the creation of my website.  Soon I will be heading out on an exciting trip to visit new places and see famous works of art.  Along the way I will share the things I learn with my friends back at school by posting to my blog, adding push pins to my website map, and sending postcards back to school! I hope you enjoy the "selfies" I take along my travels.  I can't wait!
